You can <a href=\"\/daniel\/blog\/2016\/09\/06\/day-one-first-bike-trip\/\">read about it<\/a> on this blog.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, for future reference,&nbsp;I describe in detail all the stuff I brought with me on my trip, and how much I spent while on the road.<\/p>\n<h2>Inventory<\/h2>\n<p>I&#8217;m impressed that, during warmer days, this is all I need to live for weeks\u2026<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Motorcycle (2016 Triumph Bonneville T120)<\/li>\n<li>Saddlebags<\/li>\n<li>Duffle bag<\/li>\n<li>Cargo mesh<\/li>\n<li>Helmet<\/li>\n<li>Jacket<\/li>\n<li>Boots<\/li>\n<li>Neck warmer<\/li>\n<li>Sunglasses<\/li>\n<li>Ear plugs &amp; container<\/li>\n<li>Watch<\/li>\n<li>Small notebook &amp; pencil<\/li>\n<li>Wallet<\/li>\n<li>Passport<\/li>\n<li>Vehicle ownership &amp; insurance<\/li>\n<li>Keys<\/li>\n<li>Chewing gum<\/li>\n<li>Clothes to ride in: jeans, t-shirt, socks, underpants<\/li>\n<li>Contact lenses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>In the left saddle bag<\/h3>\n<p>Since the left saddle bag is on the same&nbsp;side of as the highway traffic when stopped, for safety,&nbsp;I keep stuff I need&nbsp;easy access to, but only&nbsp;occasionally.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water bottle<\/li>\n<li>Rain jacket &amp; pants<\/li>\n<li>First aid kit (1 of 2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>In the right saddle bag<\/h3>\n<p>The right saddle bag is for stuff I often need easy access to.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maps &amp; guides<\/li>\n<li>Phone (when charging)<\/li>\n<li>Camera: Canon EOS M<\/li>\n<li>iPad<\/li>\n<li>Chargers<\/li>\n<li>Spare ear plugs<\/li>\n<li>Earphones (never wear while riding, use ear plugs)<\/li>\n<li>Tool kit<\/li>\n<li>Bungee cords<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>In the duffle bag<\/h3>\n<p>I&#8217;m amazed at how much I could fit in that medium-sized&nbsp;duffle bag from MEC!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tent<\/li>\n<li>Sleeping bag<\/li>\n<li>Mattress<\/li>\n<li>Flashlight<\/li>\n<li>Swiss Army knife (in the outside pocket)<\/li>\n<li>Rope<\/li>\n<li>Duct tape<\/li>\n<li>Ziplock bags (large, freezer)<\/li>\n<li>Grocery bags (plastic, to wrap clothes in)<\/li>\n<li>Garbage bags (13-Gallon, to wrap the duffle bag in case of rain)<\/li>\n<li>Underpants (4)<\/li>\n<li>Undershirt (1)<\/li>\n<li>T-shirts and golf shirts (3)<\/li>\n<li>Extra pair of jeans (1)<\/li>\n<li>Socks (2 pairs)<\/li>\n<li>Fleece sweater<\/li>\n<li>Pyjamas<\/li>\n<li>Eye glasses<\/li>\n<li>Toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shaving cream, razor, cleaning kit for contacts<\/li>\n<li>Towel, large<\/li>\n<li>Towel, small<\/li>\n<li>Cleaning towel<\/li>\n<li>First aid kit (2 of 2)<\/li>\n<li>Cleaner for motorcycle<\/li>\n<li>Microfibre cleaning cloths (2)<\/li>\n<li>Chain lubricant<\/li>\n<li>Tire pressure gauge<\/li>\n<li>Hand pump (for tires)<\/li>\n<li>Pencil sharpener (in the outside pocket)<\/li>\n<li>Prayer book<\/li>\n<li>Another book<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>In the tool kit<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Hex key set<\/li>\n<li>Screwdrivers: #2 Philips, \u00bcx4 Slot<\/li>\n<li>Adjustable wrench<\/li>\n<li>Needle-nose pliers<\/li>\n<li>Metric wrench set (8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 mm)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Items to remember to bring next time<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Walking or hiking shoes<\/li>\n<li>Flip-flop sandals<\/li>\n<li>Long-sleeved shirts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Items lost on this trip<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Sunglasses<\/li>\n<li>Camera lens cap<\/li>\n<li>Stock of spare earplugs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Budget<\/h2>\n<p>Here is a summary of (almost) all the expenses I incurred during this trip; I kept a ledger of the transactions; however, I did forget to ask for a receipt for some of them, so I did my best to record them from memory, and approximated their amounts. There may be a few other transactions missing.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure with better planning and budgeting, I could have dramatically reduced the total amount spent.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lodging:&nbsp;$443.85 (including hotel rooms, twice; camping the rest)<\/li>\n<li>Food:&nbsp;$311.27 (mostly fast food &amp; snacks; restaurants on occasion)<\/li>\n<li>Fuel:&nbsp;$173.87 (not bad for almost 5,000 km)<\/li>\n<li>Souvenirs:&nbsp;$134.05<\/li>\n<li>Supplies:&nbsp;$132.47 (including a mattress, a good one)<\/li>\n<li>Utilities:&nbsp;$60.51 (cell phone, text,&nbsp;and data service while in the U.S.)<\/li>\n<li>Toll:&nbsp;$44.80 (including park entrance&nbsp;&amp; parking fees)<\/li>\n<li>Fees:&nbsp;$15.96 (for the use of ATMs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Total:&nbsp;<strong>$1316.78<\/strong><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>[This post is about a tour I did in September 2016] For the past ten days, I&#8217;ve been on a motorcycle tour in the U.S., and it&#8217;s been fantastic!
